Illegal
Immigration
One of the biggest
problems we face today in America is uncontrolled access to our country by
any and all who simply want to come here. I don't blame them for wanting
to come but no country in the history of the world has ever survived without
controlling its borders.
You are going to
see me repeat this again but we MUST
enforce the laws
of our great land, without enforcement chaos will result. By the
way, the illegal immigration problem is already in chaos. If you
want to know what happens to a society when it does not control its borders, go ask the American Indian.
Illegal
immigration is a federal issue but because the federal government has failed to
deal with this issue states have no recourse other than to take
action
I want to be clear
this is not directed at any particular race or ethnic group, all immigration
must be dealt with. The 9-11 hijackers were here illegally having overstayed
their visas. How many more terrorist have got into this county
through our porous borders is anyone guess but my guess is the number is
staggering. Lets not wait until we have a major incident at one of
our shopping malls to act.
My proposal
One of my first actions as
governor would be to enforce current laws. I am going to repeat this so
there can be no misunderstanding. One of my first actions as governor would be to
enforce current laws. I would do this without consulting or asking the
General Assembly, they simply cannot or will not act, so I as Governor through
executive order will act. Although illegal immigration is a federal issue,
the federal government has not acted so it is up to the states to enforce the
laws.
I will
aggressively seek and prosecute any employer who has willfully violated state
laws by hiring illegal workers. I would also prosecute all employers who have
not withheld Federal and state income taxes and social
security from those that work for them. Employers who have not paid
minimum wage to those that work for them may receive additional fines. The fines for
violations of these laws are substantial.
It is not the
choice of an elected official to enforce the laws. Every elected official
takes an oath of office to enforce the laws of the land and every one that
purposely does not enforce these laws violates their oath. Whether I agree
with the particular law or not my obligations are to You, the people.
I believe my responsibility is to enforce all laws equally and I intend to
do so.
